What sort of mental defenses will Sheba encounter? As far as I know, Zeref doesn't have any sort of mental defenses against this sort of thing. But if he realized she was trying to, say, learn how to use Death Magic, he'd start resisting, whether physically or mentally. How deep would you like Sheba to be able to go? As deep as she likes! How deep Zeref would like her to go might be a different story. If Sheba were to use Reveal and your character was within the area of effect, would she notice anything she wouldn't see normally? I don't think he has anything like that, unless you count the fact that his eye color changes depending on whether or not he's consciously controlling his magic, or whether or not he's angry.
